The Criterion Collection $63.73 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Criterion Collection is a videodistribution company selling important classic and contemporary films to cinema aficionados. In 1984, Janus Films and the Voyager Company established The Criterion Collection as a privately held company concentrating exclusively upon the North American (US and Canada) home video market. The movies were published in Laserdisc format until 1998, then in the DVD and later Bluray formats. Its most recent business venture is a videoondemand downloading service in partnership with The Auteurs. The Criterion Collection company was founded in 1984 by Robert Stein, Aleen Stein, and Joe Medjuck, who later were joined by Roger Smith. In 1985, the Steins, William Becker, and Jonathan B. Turell founded the Voyager Company, to publish educational multimedia CDROMs (19892000), during which time, The Criterion Collection became a subordinate division of the Voyager Company. If (Criterion Collection) $30.01 Rated: NASynopsis: Lindsay Anderson’s If…. is a daringly anarchic vision of British society, set in a boarding school in late-sixties England. Before Kubrick made his mischief iconic in A Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell made a hell of an impression as the insouciant Mick Travis, who, along with his school chums, trumps authority at every turn, finally emerging as violent savior against the draconian games of one-upmanship played by both students and the powers that be. Mixing color and black and white as audaciously as it mixes fantasy and reality, If…. remains one of cinema’s most unforgettable rebel yells. |

Yojimbo (Criterion Collection) $30.01 Rated: NASynopsis: The incomparable Toshiro Mifune stars in Akira Kurosawa’s visually stunning and darkly comic Yojimbo. To rid a terror-stricken village of corruption, wily masterless samurai Sanjuro turns a range war between two evil clans to his own advantage. Remade twice, by Sergio Leone and Walter Hill, this exhilarating genre-twister remains one of the most influential and entertaining films ever produced. Criterion is proud to present this Kurosawa favorite in a new, anamorphic high-definition transfer. |

Leopard The (Criterion Collection) $30.01 Rated: NASynopsis: An epic on the grandest scale, Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard (Il gattopardo) re-creates, with nostalgia, drama, and opulence, the tumultuous years of Italy’s Risorgimento, when the aristocracy lost its grip and the middle classes rose and formed a unified, democratic Italy. Burt Lancaster (The Killers, Brute Force), stars as an aging prince watching his culture and fortune wane in the face of a new generation, represented by the gorgeous Alain Delon (Purple Noon, Le samouraï) and Claudia Cardinale (8 1/2, Once Upon a Time in the West). The Criterion Collection is proud to present The Leopard in two distinct versions: Visconti’s original and the English-language version released in America. |
