Two Humans Dvd
The Last Unicorn.?

The Unicorn is never named in the movie, but her human counterpart is titled Amalthea. This startled me, when I first heard it as a very young girl, because that unicorn-girl had MY name. I researched it when I was older and happened to see the movie again, and I discovered it was Greek.

The first unicorn was a mountain goat, whose one (of two) horns was broken off by Zeus when she was nursing him. She then had only one left and became the first unicorn.

I don’t know if anyone knows the movie I’m talking about, but I hope someone does. This movie mesmirised me, even as I grew up, and I still hold it very close to my heart.

Sadly xD, I don’t own the movie. ^_^ Anyone know where I can purchase it? VHS would be fine, but does anyone know if it’s on DVD?

I love this movie!

I love it to and it is available on DVD. Click on the link to order:

BTW: It’s an adaptation of a book by Peter S. Beagle. The poor man got ripped off in the movie deal and doesn’t get much money from the DVD sales so it would be nice if you ordered the book too:

Robert J. Sawyer, the award-winning and bestselling writer, hits the peak of his powers in Humans , the second book of The Neanderthal Parallax , his trilogy about our world and parallel one in which it was the Homo sapiens who died out and the Neanderthals who became the dominant intelligent species. This powerful idea allows Sawyer to examine some of the deeply rooted assumptions of contemporary human civilization dramatically, by confronting us with another civilization, just as morally valid, that has made other choices. In Humans, Neanderthal physicist Ponter Boddit, a character you will never forget, returns to our world and to his relationship with geneticist Mary Vaughan, as cultural exchanges between the two Earths begin. As we see daily life in another present-day world, radically different from ours, in the course of Sawyer’s fast-moving story, we experience the bursts of wonder and enlightenment that are the finest pleasures of science fiction. Humans is one of the best SF novels of the year, and The Neanderthal Parallax is an SF classic in the making.   Humans is a 2004 Hugo Award Nominee for Best Novel.

In a world where enhanced animals have altered the ecology beyond repair, the great protective enclaves are beginning to be built, but there will be no refuge there for altered humans, nor for normal humans trying to protect their enhanced pets. A woman with feline genes, bred for sex slavery. A man who kills to protect his pet. Two truckers who don’t care about laws designed for the cities. All are on the run across a surreal landscape where their odyssey takes them into the dangerous wilds, along roads and highways rapidly becoming impassable, and into cities where they have to live as outlaws. There is a chance for them to find a normal life if they can survive long enough to be accepted as immigrants to the moon. But only two of them can go, and only if they aren’t caught first. Altered Humans is a novel set in the days before the pet plague reaches its peak, where society is in flux, where survival is for the strong, but where goodness and generosity can still be found if you don’t die first.

Readers around the world have fallen for Kelley Armstrong’s intoxicating, sensual and wicked tales of the paranormal, in which demons and witches, werewolves and vampires collide – often hilariously, sometimes violently – with everyday life. In Armstrong’s first six novels, Elena, Paige and Eve have had their way with us. Now get ready for Jaime Vegas, the luscious, lovelorn and haunted necromancer. . . Jaime, who knows a thing or two about showbiz, is on a television shoot in Los Angeles when weird things start to happen. As a woman whose special talent is raising the dead, her threshold for weirdness is pretty high: she’s used to not only seeing dead people but hearing them speak to her in very emphatic terms. But for the first time in her life – as invisible hands brush her skin, unintelligible fragments of words are whispered into her ears, and beings move just at the corner of her eye-she knows what humans mean when they talk about being haunted. She is determined to get to the bottom of these manifestations, but as she sets out to solve the mystery she has no idea how scary her investigation will get, or to what depths ordinary humans will sink in their attempts to gain supernatural powers. As she digs into the dark underside of Los Angeles, she’ll need as much Otherworld help as she can get in order to survive, calling on her personal angel, Eve, and Hope, the well-meaning chaos demon. Jeremy, the alpha werewolf, is also by her side offering protection. And, Jaime hopes, maybe a little more than that. "As I knelt on the cobblestones to begin the ritual, I opened not some ancient leather pouch, but a Gucci make-up bag. . . . I know little about the geography and theology of the afterlife, but I do know that the worst spirits are kept secured, and my risk of "accidentally" tapping into a hell dimension is next to nil. Even if I do bring back some depraved killer’s spirit, what can it do to me? When you deprive someone of the ability to act in the living world, he’s pretty darned helpless. In death, even the worst killer plummets from lethal to merely annoying. Yet whatever had been trying to contact me apparently could cross that barrier, could act in the living world. . .at least on me. I added an extra helping of vervain to the censer." from No Humans Involved From the Hardcover edition.

Mycotoxins and Their Metabolites in Humans and Animals

Mycotoxins and Their Metabolites in Humans and Animals

$239

A mycotoxin is a toxin produced by a fungus under special conditions of moisture and temperature. These fungi are aerobic and microscopic and, moreover, may colonize many kinds of food from the field to the table. Mycotoxins are not only a spoilage issue for food, but in high doses can be a serious health threat for humans. The book will be similar to Weidenborner's previous two books – "Mycotoxins in Feedstuffs" and "Mycotoxins in Foodstuffs" – in that it will be a review of the literature to create a comprehensive reference for mycotoxin levels. It will be his third (and last) book on the topic, this time focusing on the incidence of a mycotoxin in humans and/or animals (natural or artificial incidence). Each entry will include contamination, concentration rate, mean concentration of organs (humans and animals) with a mycotoxin, as well as sample constitution (where possible) and country of origin of the sample.

Savage Humans and Stray Dogs

Savage Humans and Stray Dogs

$29.95

The mass slaughter of stray dogs at Bangalore and elsewhere in Karnataka in 2007. outraged animal lovers throughout India. While the killing of two children, attributed. to such animals, was profoundly tragic, the authorities` response was both cruel. and counter-productive in terms of a strategy for controlling stray dog populations. Savage Humans and Stray Dogs: A Study in Aggression explores the entire. gory train of events in detail and argues that there might have been more to. it than met the eye. The book looks at human aggression and the entire range. of relations between human and non-human living beings, and contends that the. onslaught had its cultural/psychological roots in a mindset that has evolved. in a universe of morality that humans have created and which excludes animals. This universe reflects the defining influence of the Judaeo-Christian and Renaissance-Humanist. tradition on the evolution of modernity in the West. In contrast, the major. ancient Indian texts embody a very different tradition in which all creation,. animate and inanimate, is seen to be a manifestation of the Universal Consciousness. and, hence, deserving of justice and respect. The author explores the psychological roots of violence, showing that in some. cases, demand for slaughter of animals reflects the transference of the genocidal. impulse to it. This book is a stimulating read for people interested in the study of behavioural. psychology, aggression, violence, human-animal relations and the environment. It would also be an invaluable resource for animal rights activists.

The Humans Who Went Extinct

The Humans Who Went Extinct

$16.95

Just 28,000 years ago, the blink of an eye in geological time, the last of Neanderthals died out in their last outpost, in caves near Gibraltar. Thanks to cartoons and folk accounts we have a distorted view of these other humans – for that is what they were. We think of them as crude and clumsy and not very bright, easily driven to extinction by the lithe, smart modern humans that came out of Africa some 100,000 years ago.But was it really as simple as that? Clive Finlayson reminds us that the Neanderthals were another kind of human, and their culture was not so very different from that of our own ancestors. In this book, he presents a wider view of the events that led to the migration of the moderns into Europe, what might have happened during the contact of the two populations, and what finally drove the Neanderthals to extinction. It is a view that considers climate, ecology, and migrations of populations, aswell as culture and interaction. His conclusion is that the destiny of the Neanderthals and the Moderns was sealed by ecological factors and contingencies. It was a matter of luck that we survived and spread while the Neanderthals dwindled and perished. Had the climate not changed in our favour some 50 million years ago, things would have been very different. There is much current research interest in Neanderthals, much of it driven by attempts to map some of their DNA. But it's not just a question of studying the DNA. The rise and fall of populations is profoundly moulded by the larger scale forces of climate and ecology. And it is only by taking this wider view that we can fully understand the course of events that led to our survival and their demise. The fact that Neanderthals survived until virtually yesterday makes our relationship with themand their tragedy even more poignant. They almost made it, after all.

Balancing Water for Humans and Nature

Balancing Water for Humans and Nature

$45

Balancing Water for Humans and Nature authored by two of the world's leading experts on water management examines water flows – the 'blood stream' of both nature and society – in terms of the crucial links balances conflicts and trade-offs between human and environmental needs. The authors argue that a sustainable future depends fundamentally on our ability to manage these trade-offs and encourage long-term resilience. They advocate an ecohydrological approach to land/water/environmental problems and advance a strong reasoned argument for viewing precipitation as the gross fresh water resource ultimately responsible for sustaining all terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem services. This book makes the most coherent and holistic argument to date for a new ecological approach to understanding and managing water resources for the benefit of all. Basing their analysis on per capita needs for an acceptable nutritional diet the authors analyse predictions of the amounts of water needed for global food production by 2050 and identify potential sources. Drawing on small-scale experiences in Africa and Asia they also cover the vulnerability of the semi-arid tropics through a simplified model of green and blue water scarcity components.

Stimulus Class Formation in Humans and Animals

Stimulus Class Formation in Humans and Animals

$195

Stimulus class formation has been studied independently by two groups of researchers. One group has come out of a learning theory approach, while the second has developed out of a behavior analytic tradition. The purpose of the present volume is to further establish the ties between these two research areas while allowing for differences in approach to the questions asked. The book is loosely organized around four themes. The first two sections deal with what constitutes functional and equivalence classes in animals and humans. In the third section, the authors attempt to identify stimulus control variables that contribute to the formation of equivalences classes. The last section deals with the complex issue of the role of verbal behavior in equivalence classes. The goal of the book is to provide the reader with a better understanding of the current state of research and theory in stimulus class formation. It is also hoped that it will stimulate research into how and under what conditions, stimulus classes can form.
