why don’t some movies show up in Widescreen like they should?

Last Year I bought that Movie My Bloody Valentine it’s a 3-D Horror movie and it says widescreen on the side but when I put it in my DVD player to watch it the movie comes in on Fullscreen and there are no options where I can switch it over to Widescreen instead of FullScreen I have a thirty two inch Weston House Television with a Built in DVD player and when I put it in there it doesn’t show up in Widescreen and the Television is set for Widescreen also when I put it in my DVD player the movie doesn’t show up in Widescreen like it’s supposed too but it doesn’t and my Dad tried everything he could to try and get the movie to play in widescreen and it Just won’t play in Widescreen it will play in Fullscreen but it will not play in widescreen and I’m starting to wonder if they forgot to put the black bars there but nobody forgets to do that and there are no options on the main menu where I can Select Widescreen or Fullscreen does anyone know how to do that?

The movie has an original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 so it will take up the entire screen on a 16×9 HDTV. Wider aspect ratio movies (2.35:1 2.4:1) leave black bars at the top and bottom
