How to make my room my college like?
I’m not going away for college, I’m going to a nearby community college so I will still live at home. But I want to still live the college experiance a little bit. I was wondering if anyone had any suguestions on how to turn my room into more of a dorm like room? I live with my parents and my parents pretty much let me do what I want and I’m not unruly and I hardly ever see them because I’m either at my boyfriends or working. So any ideas?
That sounds like a great idea, and I totally understand how you feel. So let me see if I can help.
I think what you want is for your room to be a little more “self sufficient.” So, the most important thing you can do is have a lot of storage. Egg crates or wire shelves are great because they don’t cost a ton of money. Keep your stuff in your room instead of all over the house. Get a desk in your room with a few shelves so you can store all of your school books and do your homework in one place. If you can afford a laptop, I highly recommend getting one. You can bring to class and type your notes, and it takes up less space on your desk. Get a mini-fridge, not for everything, but to keep a few drinks or snacks that you can have during study time or when hanging out with friends. Most importantly, keep your room CLEAN. Then you can actually have people up there to hang out instead of being in the living room (everyone in the dorms hangs out in their rooms too! We never kept our places a mess).
That should give you some more independence from the rest of the house without going overboard. Good luck!
