Three’s Company – Season Three $20.64 Rated: NRSynopsis: Three’s Company hit No. 1 in the Nielsen ratings in its third season (1978-79), and all 22 of those episodes are collected in this box set. The combination of slapstick, verbal misunderstandings, and sexual double-entendres plays to the strengths of the stars: John Ritter (Jack Tripper), Suzanne Somers (Chrissy Snow), and Joyce DeWitt (Janet Wood). Season 3 also marked the exit of the trio’s landlord, Stanley Roper (Norman Fell), and his wife, Helen (Audra Lindley), who went on to a short-lived spin-off, The Ropers. Some of the better episodes this season include: Janet and Mrs. Roper participating in a nude beach protest and having to walk home naked in “Good Old Reliable Janet”; Jack meeting original roomie Eleanor (Marianne Black) — of course, while she’s in the middle of a shower — and thinking he may have to move out in “Eleanor’s Return”; and, in a typical Three’s Company fashion, a befuddled Mr. Roper thinking Chrissy may be pregnant when he eavesdrops through a bathroom pipe and hears her discussing a wart in “Stanley’s Hotline.” Keep an eye peeled for a very young, pre-Night Court John Larroquette as a cop in “Jack Moves Out,” as well as ALF’s mom, Anne Schedeen, in “Stanley’s Hotline.” Christina UrbanPRODUCTION AND TECHNICAL NOTES:Aspect Ratio: Pre-1954 Standard (1.33.1)Sound: Dolby Digital MonoFeatures: Never-before-seen pilot episode #2 made before Suzanne Somers was cast; “Remembering John Ritter,” with Richard Kline, Don Knotts, Ann Wedgeworth, Jenilee Harrison, director Dave Powers, writers Kim Weiskopf and George Burditt, and producer George Sunga (introduced by Joyce DeWitt); Brand-new interviews, introduced by Joyce DeWitt, with Richard Kline and director Dave Powers; Audio commentary for “The Bake-Off” with Chris Mann, author of “Come and Knock on Our Door”; Original promotional pieces with John Ritter; Blooper reel; Best of Jack: Season Three; Best of Janet: Season Three; Best of Chrissy: Season Three; Best of the Ropers: Season ThreeLanguage: EnglishTime: 9 Hours 23 Minutes |

The Season $6.99 Palm Beach is known around the world as the most wealthy, glamorous, opulent, decadent, self-indulgent, sinful spot on earth. With their beautiful 3.75 square-island constantly in the media glare, Palm Beachers protect their impossibly rich society from outside scrutiny with vigilant police, ubiquitous personal security staffs, and screens of tall hedges encircling every mansion. To this bizarre suspicious, exclusive world, New York Times bestselling author Ronald Kessler brought his charm, insight, and award-winning investigative skills, and came to know Palm Beach, its celebrated and powerful residents, and its exotic social rituals as no outside writer ever has. In this colorful, entertaining, and compulsively readable book. Kessler reveals the inside story of Palm Beach society as it moves languidly through the summer months, quickens in the fall, and shifts into frenetic high speed as the season begins in December, peaks in January and February, and continues into April. When unimaginable wealth combines with unlimited leisure time oil an island barely three times the size of New York’s Central Park, human foibles and desires, lust and greed, passion and avarice, become magnified and intensified. Like laboratory rats fed growth hormones, the 9,800 Palm Beach residents—87 percent of whom are millionaires—exhibit the most outlandish extremes of their breed. To tell the story, Kessler follows four Palm Beachers through the season. These four characters—the reigning queen of Palm Beach society, the night manager of Palm Beach’s trendiest bar, a gay “walker” who escorts wealthy women to balls, and a thirty—six-year-old gorgeous blonde who says she “can’t find a guy in Palm Beach”—know practically everyone on the island and tell what goes on behind the scenes. Interweaving the yarns of these unfor-gettable figures with the lifestyle, history, scandals, lore, and rituals of a unique island of excess, The Season creates a powerful, seamless, juicy narrative that no novelist could dream up. |

Three’s Company Season 8 $20.64 Rated: NRSynopsis: THREE’S COMPANY, the sitcom that spawned endless imitators with its sexy singles-based humor, left a huge mark on the comedy-sitcom genre. Revolving around endless misunderstandings about sexuality and drugs, and playing off quite a few stereotypes, the show displayed John Ritter’s knack for physical comedy, delivering laughs through the comedian’s outlandish expressions, gestures, and mannerisms. When aspiring chef Jack Tripper (Ritter) tells his landlord, Mr. Roper (Norman Fell), that he is gay in order to peacefully cohabit with a string of attractive female roommates, he must construct a web of lies (which proves almost impossible to unravel) in order to cover his tracks. The journey comes to an end here, with the eighth and final season. |

Three’s Company – Season One $6.25 Rated: NASynopsis: It is extremely rare that a show, introduced near the end of the network season, achieves phenomenal success; yet Three’s Company, based on the British series Man About the House and hurried onto the ABC schedule in March 1977, caught on quickly and became one of TV’s top-rated shows for several years running. John Ritter portrayed Jack Tripper, a culinary student who happened upon the scene just as Janet and Chrissy (Joyce DeWitt and Suzanne Somers) were in need of a roommate, ideally one who could cook. In order to get this arrangement over with the landlord, though, the trio had to pretend that Jack was gay (it was a very different time, kids). The charade called for lots of mincing about by Jack in front of Mr. and Mrs. Roper (Norman Fell and Audra Lindley, and added layers of weirdness to the sexual double entendres that were the show’s stock-in-trade. The six episodes collected here aired on Thursday nights at 9:30 in the spring of ’77. In memory of series star John Ritter, Anchor Bay Entertainment will be donating a portion of its sales proceeds to United Cerebral Palsy, a charity he had long supported.
