Tommy Bruce $74.88 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Tommy Bruce (16 July 1937 10 July 2006) was an English pop singer, who had most success in the early 1960s.He was born Thomas Charles Bruce, in Stepney, London. Both his parents died when he was a child and he grew up in an orphanage, later working as a van driver and in a market before undertaking National Service in Belgium.Returning to London in 1959, and working again as a market porter, he became a friend of his neighbour, songwriter Barry Mason. Mason suggested he record a version of the song Aint Misbehavin, written by Fats Waller, in a style similar to Chantilly Lace, a recent hit single by The Big Bopper. Produced by Norrie Paramor, Bruces recording rose to number 3 in the UK pop charts in 1960, much to his own surprise. He had no musical training, and described his own sandpaper and gravel singing voice, with a strong London accent, as diabolical. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Tommy Steele $74.88 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Tommy Steele OBE (born Thomas William Hicks, 17 December 1936, Bermondsey, London), is an English entertainer. Steele is widely regarded as Britains first teen idol and rock and roll star. Before landing a singing career, Steele tried his hand at a number of odd jobs and had a brief spell as a merchant seaman. Like many singers of his era he never did national service, having failed the medical examination because, at 18 years old, he was diagnosed as suffering with cardiomyopathy. However, according to his autobiography, Bermondsey Boy: Memories of a Forgotten World, he failed the medical because he had flat feet. While on leave or during dock strikes, he played guitar and banjo and sang in The 2is Coffee Bar and The Cats Whisker where handjiving was devised, two coffee houses in Soho, both as a solo performer and with Wally Whytons Vipers Skiffle Group. When a ship Steele was serving on docked in Norfolk, Virginia, he heard Buddy Holly and fell in love with rock and roll, turning his back on the British skiffle craze. Singing Was the Easy Part $9.99 Born Vito Farinola in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn in 1928, Vic worked as an usher at the fabled Paramount Theatre before realizing a dream by shooting to the top of the Billboard Chart in 1947 with his first hit “I Have But One Heart.” He was mentored by everyone from Perry Como to Tommy Dorsey. Damone had one of the most successful careers ever had by an American pop singer and one of the most glamorous and exciting lives of any guy who lived while the Ratpack reigned. • He was almost thrown out of the window of a New York City hotel by a mobster. • He dated Ava Gardner, who got him drunk for the first time. • He married glamorous Italian actress Ana Maria Pierangeli and later, Diahann Carroll. • He appeared at the Sands Hotel during the glory days of Vegas and once took a nude chorus girl into the steam room where the Ratpack was relaxing. In Singing Was the Easy Part , he talks frankly about his bankruptcy, his many marriages and his belief in God. It’s a warm, funny, and inspiring memoir from one of America’s greatest pop singers. |
