Time Religion Dvd

Inresponse to rlRose 63 who responded to “why are people so ignorant”?
“so many choose to be ignorant of the real world, feeling all nice and cozy wrapped up in their religion, like a warm blanket muttering” its not real, its not real” when confronted with scientific fact.” mam, Christians drive cars, fly in planes, watch t.v., ride on boats, talk on phone, go see doctors, listen to radios, use dvd players, turn on lights, use washing machines, mow the lawn, use the sprinklers, surf the web, use a printer, take pictures, go to the movies, go to schools, read books, carry cell phones, use the stove, use the fridge, use the microwave. Now please try again. and this time stop and think before answering, I mean this with the utmost respect.
Son, if you meant this with all respect, you would have written it to me personally rather than calling me out in public like a bully on a playground. I have no problem expressing myself.
As you can see from your post, which I’ve quoted below because you neglected to provide a link, you weren’t the nicest of people in your questions, obviously posted to single out people. It was not an innocent question… you yourself are referring to people who argue/discuss in the religion section as “ignorant.”
Be that as it may, my use of the word “ignorant” means “unaware because of a lack of relevant information or knowledge” and my answer reflects that. I was a confirmed Lutheran. I attended church and thought I believed in god… I tried to, anyway, mostly to make my very faithful mom happy. It is my experience that religious people, in general, are ignorant of the science world, the workings of the natural world, and the truth behind how we came to be here if it doesn’t fit their biblical learning.
I make no judgement as to the education of religious people. My own mother, a very Christian woman, graduated Summa Cum Laude from a major university. She is educated. Many religious people are. But they are ignorant of how this world works. Heck, my 5 year old son can work a DVD player and turn on lights… that doesn’t make him brilliant OR well-educated.
Rather than keeping an open mind and learning about science, examining evidence that our most learned men have found in relation to the age of the earth, when dinosaurs roamed (WAAAAY before man was here), the creation of our universe, etc., they’d rather stay bundled up in the blanket of their bible (which yes, I’ve read many times… great book of stories, but no more factual than Harry Potter). My mind is open to the possibility of some sort of creator out there somewhere… but there is no proof of his/her existence and until there is, I’ll stay bundled up in my blanket of scientific truth.
So… thanks for taking the time to bully me into submission in this public forum.
And if you believers think YOU’RE persecuted, walk a mile in my moccasins… see what it’s like to say “I don’t believe.” Sand in my face, flipped off by drivers because of an “evolve” fish on my bumper, my child harassed, my car vandalized… things I would NEVER even THINK of doing to anyone else for ANY reason… all done to me because I don’t believe. And when I mention this, I’m told, “Then they aren’t true Christians.” And I’m supposed to know this how?
Belief in a deity is all fine and good… believe all you want. But religion is poison and makes people do some pretty crazy and mean things. Take a peek at http://www.godhatesfags.com and tell me THEY aren’t “true Christians” when obviously, they believe they ARE. They’re doing plenty of persecuting.

Jesus of Nazareth $7.00 Originally made for TV in 1977, this in-depth (six hours plus) version of Jesus’ life is so thorough that the first hour is devoted solely to the story of his birth. The Song of Bernadette $6.97 Jennifer Jones plays the legendary French peasant who claimed to have dialogues with the Virgin Mary at a Lourdes grotto in 1858. The script handles the visitations as an article of truth (Linda Darnell plays the Virgin), which helps move the drama forward, though much of the story concerns the conflicts that arise in the community after Jones is told the grotto contains healing waters. Made by He… |

Sergeant York (Two-Disc Special Edition) $8.99 Gary Cooper plays Alvin York, the real-life country lad and sharpshooter drafted to fight during World War I but blocked from killing by his pacifist sentiments. Howard Hawks makes a rousing, heroic film out of the tale, and Cooper gives one of his best performances (for which he won an Oscar). The 1941 feature seems as much a valentine to wartime America (and a not-so-subtle piece of propaganda) … |

Religion $31 This book offers a succinct and comprehensible presentation of what religion is about and how it is related to other intellectual areas (particularly to science). It emphasizes the practical side of religion (religious experience, Zen-meditation, personal growth) and considers Buddhism in addition to Christianity. The resulting view of religion leaves behind skeptical misgivings but at the same time is open for interreligious dialogue. |

The Religion $7.99 This is what we dream of: to be so swept away, so poleaxed by a book that the breath is sucked right out of us. Brace yourselves. May 1565. Suleiman the Magnificent, emperor of the Ottomans, has declared a jihad against the Knights of Saint John the Baptist. The largest armada of all time approaches the knights’ Christian stronghold on the island of Malta. The Turks know the knights as the “Hounds of Hell.” The knights call themselves “The Religion.” In Messina, Sicily, a French countess, Carla La Penautier, seeks passage to Malta in a quest to find the son taken from her at his birth twelve years ago. The only man with the expertise and daring to help her is a Rabelaisian soldier of fortune, arms dealer, former janissary, and strapping Saxon adventurer by the name of Mattias Tannhauser. He agrees to accompany the lady to Malta, where, amid the most spectacular siege in military history, they must try to find the boy–whose name they do not know and whose face they have never seen–and pluck him from the jaws of Holy War. The Religion is the first book of the Tannhauser Trilogy, and from the first page of this epic account of the last great medieval conflict between East and West, it is clear we are in the hands of a master. Not since James Clavell has a novelist so powerfully and assuredly plunged readers headlong into another world and time. Anne Rice transformed the vampire novel. Stephen King reinvented horror. Now, in a spectacular tale of heroism, tragedy, and passion, Tim Willocks revivifies historical fiction. |

Religion and Prime Time Television $150 How is religion portrayed on prime time entertainment television and what effect does this have on our society? This book brings together the opinions of all the important factions involved in this important public policy debate, including religious figures (Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and Freethinkers—liberal and conservative), academics, media critics and journalists, and representatives of the entertainment industry. The debate provides contrasting views on how much and what type of religion should be on entertainment television and what relationship this has with the health of our society. Many contributors also offer strategies for how to reform the present situation. This is an important work that delineates the debate for the layperson as well as researchers, scholars, and policymakers. |
