how to play a region locked dvd?
An Ebay user conveniently forgot to mention that this movie I bought is region locked (Hong Kong and Macau, if this makes a difference). Is there any way to cheat the system so I can watch the movie? Is there a system that will read it anyway (I know PS3 isn’t region locked, but I’m not sure if it will read a region locked dvd) or if there’s a conversion…thing?
While the PS3 isn’t region locked for games, it will still obey any region settings for DVDs (or blu-ray discs), meaning you’ll most likely still be unable to play the DVD.
What you need is a region free (or all-region) DVD Player. Some models of DVD players can be made region free by use of a secret command, or firmware update you can apply yourself. Other models can be purchased pre-hacked to be region free.
The DVD drive in your PC/laptop can change its region 3 or 4 times, but after that it’ll be “stuck” in whatever region you last changed it to. Like stand-alone DVD Players, PC/laptop drives may be hackable to remove this limitation.
If you have an Asian market near your house, chances are you can find a Chinese DVD player for sale there which is region free. They’re about $100.
I personally recommend the players from Oppo Digital. They’re an American company that make awesome DVD players that, among other things, are region free. Their players can also upscale DVDs to 1080p, if you have a HDTV, can convert PAL to NTSC (essential if you’re buying discs from Europe, for instance), can play DVD, SVCD, VCD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and tons of additional media formats too numerous to list here. Adrift in Macao (Samuel French A Edition) $19.44 Full Length, Musical / 4m, 3f /Unit Sets Nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Best Music Set in 1952 in Macao, China, ADRIFT IN MACAO is a loving parody of film noir movies. Everyone that comes to Macao is waiting for something, and though none of them know exactly what that is, they hang around to find out. The characters include your film noir standards, like Laureena, the curvacious blonde, who luckily bumps into Rick Shaw, the cynical surf and turf casino owner her first night in town. She ends up getting a job singing in his night club perhaps for no reason other than the fact that she looks great in a slinky dress. And dont forget about Mitch, the American who has just been framed for murder by the mysterious villain McGuffin. With songs and quips, puns and farcical shenanigans, this musical parody is bound to please audiences of all ages. And there are of course those songs… Melnick demonstrates an affinity for melody and oldfashioned showmanship that link him to his grandfather, Richard Rodgers… Matthew Murray, Talkin Broadway.com .. . with a dropdead funny book and shamefully silly lyrics by Christopher Durang and lethally catchy music by Peter Melnick. A Drift In Macao lovingly parodies the Hollywood film noir classics of the 1940s and 50s… Michael Dale, Broadwayworld.com Author: Durang, Christopher/ Melnick, Peter Rodgers/ Melnick, Peter Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 88 Publication Date: 2009/03/26 Language: English Dimensions: 5.00 x 8.00 x 0.18 inches |

Education and Society in Hong Kong and Macao $155 Hong Kong and Macao have much in common. The dominant populations in both territories are Cantonese-speaking Chinese; both are small in area; both are urban societies; both have been colonies of European powers; and both have undergone political transition to reunification with China. Yet in education, for reasons that are analysed in this book, they are very different. The patters of similarities and differences in the two territories make a fascinating basis for comparative study. The overarching theme of the book, on continuity and change is particularly pertinent following the transition of the two societies of the postcolonial era. This thoroughly-revised and expanded second edition builds on the widely-acclaimed first edition. The work has been recognised as a significant contribution to the broad field of comparative education as well as to study of the specific societies which are its main focus. |

Macao by Pons, Philippe Edition ILL, 0 $32.99 Macao, an archipelago attached to China, is a place whose name is redolent with myth, legend and history. Established by the Portuguese in 1557, Macao’s role as the Portuguese trading base for East Asia, and also as the outpost for the Christian Church in the area, meant that since its very beginning it has been a region where disparate peoples and beliefs have met, mingled and learned to co-exist. Its position, conveniently located on China’s doorstep, ensured that trade flourished; it became a rich warehouse, where more goods were exchanged than anywhere else in the world. It was also a place of debauchery and turpitude, with gambling dives, opium dens, secret pleasure houses and an astonishingly successful smuggling industry.Administered by China since 1999, after two decades of intensive development Macao today has been transformed. From the end of World War ii until the 1980s, however, time seemed to stand still, and the city, preserved for a while from modernity, possessed a unique charm. In this Macao, East and West lived together in harmony: curved Chinese roofs, Corinthian columns and cast-iron balconies could be found side by side; statues of the Virgin were matched by little red shrines dedicated to local divinities; and beautiful Portuguese palaces were allowed to slip into elegant decay. It is this lost Macao, a dormant city of illusion, that Philippe Pons’s evocative text recovers. |
