Banff hotels and steakhouses.?
Can anyone tell me from personal experience of a good quality, scenic hotel in or near Banff for the end of July 2008. The room rates can’t really be more than about C$250 per night. Its for a special occasion ( 20th anniversary ) and would be our first trip to Canada so i would like it to be as nice as possible. Also i have heard legendary things about Canadian food especially the steaks ( i’d love to try buffallo ) so can you tell me of a good traditional steakhouse with a great atmosphere and huge portions. We may go up to Lake Louise and Jasper so the same applies for hotels and restaurants in those areas too. Thanks for the help.
I went to Banff, last January, and I stayed at the Rimrock Resort Hotel. It is about $200.00/night, and gorgeous mountain view. It also has a free public transport that can take you to town, about 10 minutes ride. There is also some kind of natural hotwater spring, within 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
Fairmont is supposed to be the best hotel, situated right at Banff downtown, but personally I do not like it, because the building is old, classical and dark, looks like an old castle. The hotel is not expensive either, less than $250/night, the last time I check. By the way I found out that it is cheaper to get a room right at the front desk, than through a travel agent. The risk is that you might not get a room if you travel during the high season.
Lake Louise is not too far from Banff, about an hour drive. There is also a nice hotel too, also belongs to Fairmont, not sure the name, I think is Chatteau Lake Louise, right by the lake. The lake is very beautiful in the summer. You can see the light green color of the lake and the mountains or hills being reflected on the lake. The price, I am not sure.
Jasper, I think is about 4 hours drive from Banff, therefore if you plan to go to Jasper, you might want to change hotels, I don’t really know any romantic hotel over there in Jasper, because I just stayed at Best Western Inn. You might want to check this website for Jasper:
