Bengal (Cat) $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Bengal is a relatively new hybrid breed of cat, formed by the cross of a domestic feline and an Asian Leopard Cat ( ALC ). Bengal cats have wildlooking markings, such as large spots, rosettes, and a light/white belly, and a body structure reminiscent of the Asian Leopard Cat (Prionailurus bengalensis bengalensis). The Bengal cat has a desirable wild appearance with a gentle domestic cat temperament, provided it is separated by at least three generations from the original crossing between a domestic feline and an ALC. The name Bengal cat was derived from the taxonomic name of the Asian Leopard Cat (P. b. bengalensis), and not from the unrelated Bengal tiger. Bengal Army $89.22 The Bengal Army was the army of the Presidency of Bengal, one of the three presidencies of British India. Although based in Bengal in northeastern India, the presidency stretched across northern India and the Himalayas all the way to the NorthWest Frontier Province. The Bengal Army included some of the most famous units in India: Skinners Horse from Bengal, the Gurkhas from the Himalayas and the Corps of Guides on the NorthWest Frontier. The presidency armies, like the presidencies themselves, belonged to the East India Company until the Indian Rebellion of 1857, when the British Crown took over all three presidencies. Of the 67,000 Hindus in the Bengal Army in 1842, 28,000 were identified as Rajputs and 25,000 as Brahmins, a category that included Bhumihar Brahmins. The Brahmin presence in the Bengal Army was reduced in the late nineteenth century because of their perceived primary role as mutineers in the Indian Mutiny, led by Mangal Pandey. Communalism in Bengal $97.95 This book explores the ascent and trajectory of communal ideology in pre-Partition Bengal-from the famine of 1943 to the Noakhali riots of 1946-47. The first major work to analyse communalism as an ideology located in a concrete historical plane, this book argues that the period after 1943 witnessed a clash between nationalism and communalism, where communal ideologies embarked on a new phase, determined to replace nationalism. Among the distinguishing features of this important study are that it:. – Critically evaluates the historiography of communalism in India. – Relates the occurrence of the Bengal famine of 1943 to the agendas and activities of the major political parties of that region-the Muslim League, the Hindu Mahasabha, the Congress and the Communist Party of India. – Examines in detail the Calcutta riots of 1946 and the role of both the colonial authorities and the Premier of the province, H S Suhrawardy, in the violence. – Presents an entirely fresh perspective on the reasons behind the Noakhali riots with the help of an array of new sources, both primary and secondary. – Analyses Gandhi`s visit to Noakhali, presenting him as resolute and prepared to embark on an ideological fight against communalism. |

Decentralized Production in West Bengal $143.39 West Bengal has a long tradition of successful smallscale and informally organized enterprises. The closure of many publicsector units and consequent fall in organized sector employment necessitates the emergence of informal sector as the potential of employment generating sector in West Bengal. This book studies garment making and small engineering goods manufacturing informal industries of West Bengal. There is a big market potential of these industries. Moreover they are providing employment to a large number of people living within the geographical boundary of the clusters in which they are situated. The Liberalisation Policy of 1990 necessitated the industries to garner competitive strength in order to sustain them and to provide employment in a sustainable way.
