Discovering Spirituality at the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery
Peace and tranquillity mixed with the wonder of beauty and culture is what most travellers look for when on a vacation. All this materializes in an afternoon spent at the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery in Hong Kong. The scenic hike to reach the monastery itself creates memories to take back with you.
The pathway up to the monastery is paved with hundreds of Buddha statues that express different emotions and postures. As you reach the top, the great Buddha statue on top of an equally huge elephant will greet you at the entrance to the monastery. Inside you may visit several shrines which encompass you in the peace and calmness of their surroundings. Travellers who follow meditation techniques would find this place to be ideally suited for practicing them.
Encased in glass at the top of the monastery you may also find the preserved body of its founder who envisioned this place of devotion. The founder is considered to be an idol in these communities. Venerable Yuet Kai founded the monastery in 1951 to popularize Buddhism after reaching the shores of Hong Kong in the year 1933. The venerable Yuet Kai is well known for his dedication to the monastery; he carried the material needed to build the monastery himself back in 1949 with the help of his loyal disciples.
It must be noted that actual monks do not use the monastery to practice Buddhism and the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery is being managed by lay people purely to provide travellers with a lifetime’s worth of incredible culture and beauty.
For tourists who wish to visit the area there are few lodging options as good as the impressive Langham Place Mongkok Hong Kong, which is a hotel Hong Kong that offers some of the best accommodation standards and facilities from among luxury Hong Kong hotels.

The Wallet of Kai Lung (Dodo Press) $24.3 Ernest Bramah (18681942) was an English author of considerable repute in his day. In total Bramah published 21 books and numerous short stories and features. His humorous works were ranked with Jerome K Jerome, and W. W. Jacobs; his detective stories with Conan Doyle; his politicoscience fiction with H. G. Wells and his supernatural stories with Algernon Blackwood. George Orwell acknowledged that Bramahs book What Might Have Been (1907) influenced his seminal Nineteen EightyFour (1948). Bramah, the creator of the immortal Kai Lung and Max Carrados, was a recluse who refused to allow his public even the slightest glimpse of his private life secrecy perhaps only matched by E. W. Hornung, the creator of Raffles, and today, J.D. Salinger. We now know that Bramah, whose real name was Smith, was a man of erudition and prescience with a unique style of writing that has never been copied. Among his most famous works are: Four Max Carrados Detective Stories (1914), Kai Lungs Golden Hours (1922), The Mirror of Kong Ho (1905) and The Wallet of Kai Lung (1900).
