Kendrick Ben
Should I take these trades?
I am in a 12 team roto league and currently in 6th place. This is my team:
C:Victor Martinez
1B: James Loney, Lance Berkman
2B: Howie Kendrick
3B: David Wright
SS: Ben Zobrist
OF: Matt Kemp, Chase Headley, Colby Rasmus, Bobby Abreu, Jose Guillen
SP: Fister, R.Wells, Pelfrey, Kershaw, J.Garcia, Jered Weaver, Kuroda
RP: Rodney, Clippard, Rhodes, Zumaya
I have been offered the following trades:
Kershaw for Vernon Wells
Zobrist for Figgins and Johnny Damon
Would do you think? It leaves a whole at SS but I have some leverage with Wells. Should i stay put or go for it? Appreciate the help.
I would NOT make any of these moves. The Zobrist for Figgins and Damon trade not only leaves a gaping hole at SS but forces you to drop someone else.
The Kershaw trade for Wells is much more interesting but still not enough for you to do it. Here’s why: Kershaw is a very key piece to what appears to be your strength, your starting rotation. Take away Kershaw and your strength becomes pedestrian. Its far too early in the year to take that big of a step backwards in all your pitching categories. Any lead you currently have in the pitching column will quickly dissolve away with one of your Aces gone.
True Wells would help your offense, but he only makes your decent OF an above average OF. Also, for how long is this version of Vernon gonna be showing itself. Its a long season and if the team starts struggling and stops playing above expectations, does Vernon revert back to his last year numbers?
Here is a suggestion – Look to upgrade at SS with a free agent move then you can move Zobrist to the OF. That would bolster your OF abit while not losing anything. Some names that may be available and worth taking a look at:
Mike Aviles KC – batting .368 with some pop. Also has 2B eligibility for flexibility.
Orlando Cabrera CIN – the Reds are redhot right now, and Cabrera is hitting leadoff. He isnt flashy but will provide steadiness.
Alexei Ramirez CWS – starting to come around and make more consistent contributions. A well known slow starter, now may be the time to get him.
Before you add one of these guys, I suggest you offer a two for one trade where you package two of your guys, maybe Guillen and Abreu for a second tier or bottom of the top tier OF or SS. Then you can move Zobrist to the OF.
