Buster Keaton $14.57 ‘Tracing Keaton’s beginnings in vaudeville and how he eventually applied that form’s traits to cinema, McPherson creates an excellent portrait of a formidable talent, also addressing the private demons that accelerated his eventual slide.’ Empire ‘The author, rather like his subject, has the knack of sketching a poignant moment using minimum of sentimental flannel.’ Sunday Telegraph ‘McPherson wins one over because of his loving fan’s attention to, and lively evocation of, the core of Keaton’s achievement.’ Telegraph ‘Graceful and charming… McPherson’s account is animated by the same sort of colour and vitality as Buster’s best work.’ Scotsman |

Tom Stern (Director) $113.11 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Tom Stern is an American actor, director, writer, and producer from New York.Stern attended film school at New York University from 19831987, where he met Alex Winter. The two collaborated on a number of 16 mm short films including Squeal of Death, which was noticed by an executive at Columbia Pictures in 1986. Squeal of Death was a fast paced absurd cartoon style live action comedy chronicling the adventures of a paranoid nerd (AKA PARANERD) named Weird Howie, who was played by Winter. The film attempted to bring the Tex Avery cartoon aesthetic to live action, several years before The Mask did it. It also reflected Stern and Winters other eclectic influences including Film noir, the Fleisher Brothers, Bob Clampett, Buster Keaton and R Crumb. Weird Howie was partially based on Bernhard Goetz, but was performed in a uniquely cartoonish style by Winter, whose acting pushed the boundaries of stylized physical comedy. Buster Keaton Collection $30.02 Rated: NRSynopsis: Considered by many the greatest of cinema’s silent clowns, Buster Keaton was a consummate practitioner of physical comedy. Although labeled the “Great Stone Face,” Keaton found tremendous eloquence in his deadpan style with the alert and expressive eyes, lithe acrobat’s body and that air of grace described by critic James Agee as “a fine, still and dreamlike beauty.” This TCM Archives 2-disc celebration of Keaton’s art puts the spotlight on his MGM period. The Cameraman (1928), remastered with a new score by Arthur Barnow, and Spite Marriage (1929) are among Keaton’s funniest silents, while Free and Easy (1930) is his first talkie. These films marked a peak in his popularity with audiences; however, Keaton resented the loss of artistic control he had enjoyed in his earlier movies and was on the brink of a major career decline that he blamed on studio interference. This watershed period in Keaton’s life is the basis for film historian Kevin Brownlow’s poignant new documentary So Funny It Hurts: Buster Keaton at MGM, completing a DVD collection which offers keen insight into what makes Keaton’s unique style of comedy hilarious, moving and timeless. |

Buster Keaton Our Hospitality $17.53 Rated: NRSynopsis: Like his 1926 film The General, this elaborate historical comedy broadened the boundaries of slapstick and proved that Keaton was not just a comedian, he was an artist. Keaton stars as youthful dreamer Willie McKay, who travels westward on a rickety locomotive to claim his birthright, only to find that his inheritance is a shack. And he learns that the object of his affection (Keaton s real-life wife, Natalie Talmadge) is the daughter of a man with whom his family has been engaged in a long, violent feud. McKay s personal struggles are punctuated by brilliant slapstick set pieces that involve an exploding dam, raging waterfalls, and a primitive steam engine. |

While giving some attention to the early part of Keaton's career, Neibaur focuses primarily on Keaton's contract work with the three studios, as well as his subsequent work as a gagman, supporting player, and television pitchman. The book also recounts the resurgence of interest in Keaton's silent work, which resulted in a lifetime achievement Oscar and worldwide recognition before his death in 1966. |

Buster Keaton Double Feature $18.77 Rated: NASynopsis: Double-feature of Buster Keaton classics, including: THE GENERAL – The two things engineer Johnny Gray (Buster Keaton) loves most in the world are his Southern belle sweetheart and his locomotive. When Northern spies steal the latter, the intrepid Confederate single-handedly takes on the entire Union army in order to get it back. Against a backdrop of magnificently photographed Civil War battle scenes unfolds one of the great chases in movie history. Set almost entirely aboard moving trains, Keaton’s THE GENERAL is physical comedy refined to elegant perfection and widely considered to be the actor-director’s greatest film. STEAMBOAT BILL JR. – In STEAMBOAT BILL, JR., Buster Keaton plays the mild-mannered son of a steamboat captain caught in the middle of the bitter rivalry between his father and another Mississippi riverboat owner. This silent classic contains the famous stunt in which a cyclone blows down a two-story wall over Keaton who passes unharmed through an open window. |

Joe Keaton by Elmo, Timoteus [Paperback] $76.47 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Joe Keaton (July 6, 1867 January 13, 1946) was an American silent film actor and the father of actor Buster Keaton. Keaton, a ScotsIrish American, was born Joseph Hallie Keaton a few miles south of Terre Haute, Indiana. Keaton was born to Libbie (n e Jane), and Joseph Francis Keaton IV. Joe and his wife Myra were both vaudeville performers. Joe and Myras first son/child was Joseph Frank Keaton, who became known as the silent film actor Buster Keaton. Buster joined the act when he was only a few years old. The act was a roughandtumble one, with Buster being thrown around on stage most of the time. As the years went by, Joe Keaton became an alcoholic, which forced Buster to quit the act by the time he was a teenager.
